Royal Salute 21 Year Old

Inspired by the 21 Gun Salute, a practice used to commemorate special royal occasions, and commissioned in honour of Queen Elizabeth II’s royal coronation, the 21-year-old expression was the first in the Royal Salute line of luxury blended Scotch whiskies.

From the world of Chivas Brothers, the Royal Salute 21-year-old was the brainchild of Samuel Bronfman. Developed in 1953, this expression was birthed out of Samuel Bronfman’s desire to create a whisky that were fit for a Queen herself.

Described as a ‘powerful, sophisticated and opulent’ blend, the rich and lavish taste of the Royal Salute 21-Year-Old is achieved by marrying the rarest and the most carefully selected single malt and grain whiskies to produce a taste that defined the very meaning of a luxury whisky.

Bottled in a Sapphire coloured porcelain Wade decanter made of Cornish clay, it takes nearly 5-6 days to produce, the Royal Salute 21-year-old was not only a landmark in whisky making, but art itself.

Commissioned to embody every aspect of royalty, the Royal Salute 21-year-old is the quintessential definition of a rich history, inside and out. The classic Wade decanter is also available in two other colours; Emerald and Ruby.

The Royal Salute 21-Year-Old is golden amber in colour, and has an alcohol content of 40%.

Royal Salute 21 Year Old Tasting Notes

In addition to the first Royal Salute expression, more have been released over the years to commemorate momentous occasions for the British Monarchy.

  • The Royal Salute 32-Years-Old was released to commemorate the Union of the Crown, the unification of Ireland, Scotland and England under the British Monarchy.
  • The Royal Salute Stone of Destiny with an age statement of 38-Years-Old is named after the ancient block of Red Sandstone called the Stone of Destiny, used during the coronation of the Scottish Kings.
  • The Royal Salute 62 Gun Salute carries an age statement of 40 years, it is named after the highest honour reserved for the most important Royal occasions. It was released in 2010 and is enclosed within a beautiful blue Dartington crystal decanter.

Royal Salute 21 Year Old Tasting Notes

Nose

Powerful aromas of Citrus and Sweet Pears, balanced with the full fragrance of summer flowers. Hints of sweet vanilla, and dry Oaky notes are followed by subtle notes of sherry and smoke.

Finish

A long, sweet and lingering finish that is distinctly fruity

Palate

Sweet flavours of Orange marmalade and fresh pears followed by a rich, medley of spices and nuttiness of hazelnuts with traces of smokiness.
